In Math Counts, Lawrence youth meet weekly to work on stimulating math problems and prepare for Spring time math competitions. For many of these kids, this project has been a bridge into the math world, where they have discovered their interest for and talent in mathematics. Phillips Academy volunteers teach YDO students math skills to prepare for these competitions. We prepare for them through mini-lectures, problem sets, pizza, bonds between the mentors and YDO kids, and most importantly laughter and fun.
