Nurilys Cintron

Associate Director of Storytelling

Nurilys joined YDO as a volunteer staff member for the Performing Project in the summer of 2012 at the age of 14. She was cast in a musical and mentored other students through their journey as performers. Nurilys then volunteered her Senior year of high school at YDO, teaching creative writing and theater workshops to middle school students, until she graduated and left the nest to travel the world on Semester at Sea in 2015. Nurilys attended college at Northern Essex Community College ‘19, and Southern Connecticut State University ‘20. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Communication with a concentration in Film, TV, & Digital Production. She has 15+ years of experience in performing, educating, mentoring inner city youth and facilitating enriching experiences with and for the community of Lawrence.

Nurilys started at YDO fulltime in the summer of 2023. She currently oversees our department for Performing Arts which entails approving dance & theater curriculum, mentoring youth staff, teaching voice lessons, dance classes, and filmmaking classes. When she is not teaching or mentoring, she runs our social media accounts, gathering memories for our students and audience. During the summer, Nurilys is the Director of ydShow, a musical theater program offered within our larger summer program. She delegates a production team of approximately 15 adult & youth staff and together they audition, cast, and put on a show featuring 40 students within a few weeks. Nurilys’ goal at YDO is to consistently provide an accepting and collaborative space for all of her students and staff while investing in their individual interests in performing arts and media.
